Correctly filled in characteristics make the product description page informative and clear. With the help of filters, the customer will quickly find the products they need and make purchase decisions.
For search algorithms to show your products, we recommend that you fill in the characteristics as detailed as possible. The more detailed the product is described, the more likely the customer will see it in the search results.
It’s important not to add unnecessary search terms or information not related to the product directly: this will lower the product in search results and product categories.
Frequent errors when filling in characteristics #
- Incorrect information.
- Search keys and tags in text fields, unnecessary search keys.
- Selection of values not related to the product.
- Data in the wrong format: for example, the Length field has centimeters instead of millimeters.
When filling in the characteristics, use hints with recommendations:

If you fill in the product template in the Excel template, the hints look like this:

Why characteristics are needed #
-
For site navigation.
Attributes help to categorize products on the site. The main navigation attribute is Type, you’ll find it in the settings of all categories on the site. Type guides in categories
Some categories use an additional characteristic.
For example:
- in the Clothing, Shoes, Accessories categories, the product is categorized by the Type and Gender attributes;
- skin care creams are categorized by the Type and Application area attributes: if the application area is hands, then the cream will be in the hand products category.
All navigation attributes in templates are marked as mandatory in the blue field. Personal account attributes are marked with a red asterisk.
-
For search.
The system indexes all the characteristics and searches for products by them. The better and more accurately you fill in the PDP, the more frequently it will show up in the search results on the site.
Don’t put all possible search terms in the product description and content, or add a large number of irrelevant values in its characteristics. This will lower the product position in the search results and product category.
-
For filters on the site.
Getting the product in the filters increases the chance of showing the PDP to the customer.
For example, a customer is searching for women’s winter jacket. Then, using filters, they specify the characteristics:
Color: beige,
Type: jacket,
Season: winter.Your product may fit the request, but will not appear on the list if the Color and Season fields are not filled in correctly on the PDP.
-
To compare and examine products.
The detailed characteristics help customers to study the product and its features, compare products with each other. The more characteristics are filled in the PDP, the more attractive your product will be for the customer.
Where to specify the required characteristics #
Required characteristics are marked with:
-
red asterisks when added to the personal account;
-
dark blue color and a Required field hint in the Excel template.
How to fill in the color characteristics #
To accurately display the color in the product description page, fill in the Product color and Color name attributes.
The “Product color” attribute is often used as a filter for product search. It’s important to fill it in correctly, so the customer will be able to find your product by using the filter when searching.
If you need to merge products into one PDP, you can use the “Product color” and “Color name” attributes. They apply to many product categories.

Select the dominant product color from the drop-down list when working with a product in your personal account in the
Product color field.
Describe complex colors by listing simple colors. You can use a maximum of 5 colors in the Product color field.

If there are more than five colors, select the Multicolor option.

When working with the Ozon template, to select multiple colors:
-
Click on the arrow and view the available values. For example, the Product color field has values: white, blue, green.
-
Select one primary color. You can add the rest with a semicolon. The values should be written in the same way as they are written in the drop-down list. For example: “white;blue;green”.

The Product color attribute is the base color. You can specify any additional color names or unique name in the Color name attribute.
-
Color name: you can give any marketing color names, tone and shade numbers in this attribute. For example: “Scarlet sunset”, “Moulin Rouge, tone No. 5”, “dusty pink warm”.
The color name you specify in this attribute will be visible on the site. The “Color name” attribute makes it easier for customers to navigate to shades or prints.
Html tags in the abstract #
To make your PDP on the Ozon website look attractive, we recommend using html tags in the following characteristics:
- abstract,
- organizational details,
- materials included in the price.
You can use html tags in them:
- br–line break,
- ul, li–list.
Usage examples #
Using the tag | Result |
---|---|
Line break: Office paper "Sveto" <br> is also suitable for a home printer |

List: Paper "Sveto" is suitable for:<ul><li>home printer</li><li>office printer</li></ul> |

How to fill in the model name #
The Model name attribute is the product model name that distinguishes it from others.
The model name doesn’t include:
- product type, brand, and color,
- numerical characteristics: weight, volume, dimensions, memory capacity, and others.
This attribute can also be used for merging products into one PDP. If the attribute is applied for merging, it’s indicated in the field:

To merge products of the same model, specify the same value in all PDPs.
For example:
You sell an Apple iPhone X smartphone: the model is the same but the colors are different—beige, blue, and red. You need to create three PDPs:
- Apple iPhone X 128GB smartphone, beige;
- Apple iPhone X 128GB, red;
- Apple iPhone X 128GB, blue.
For all three product options, fill in:
- Type: smartphone;
- Brand: Apple;
- Model name: iPhone X;
- Color: different for each PDP.

This way all three product variants of the same model but of different colors will be merged on one PDP. The “Model name” field value will be used for merging.
If you don’t use the “Model name” attribute for merging, you’ll have an additional attribute “Merge on one PDP”. Fill it in similarly: specify the same attribute value for all the products you want to merge.

If you don’t need to merge PDPs, specify a different value for all options.

Sometimes the manufacturer doesn’t give a specific name for the model. The model is distinguished from the others only by the brand and the numeric or alphabetic value. Specify them as the model name. For example:
- Atemi AKP-02 volleyball knee pads, black, size L, 2 pcs;
- Atemi AKP-02 volleyball knee pads, blue, size L, 2 pcs.
For both products, fill in:
- Type: volleyball knee pads,
- Brand: Atemi,
- Model name: AKP-02 (matches the Product ID).
Color, size, number of pieces aren’t included in the Model name.
All product variants will be merged on one PDP based on the value in the Model name field.
