Charter flights

What is a charter #

A charter is a chartered flight performed by an airline outside the regular airport schedule. As a rule, tickets for such flights are sold in travel agencies, but the planes are not always filled, so independent tourists also have a chance to buy a charter ticket and fly to the resort city at a very low price. Such tickets can’t be purchased from the airline, but you can buy them on our website and in the app.

When is it better to buy charter tickets #

In the booking form, specify the cities of departure and arrival.

Usually, tickets are available at the last moment. The closer the departure date, the lower the price, because the airlines need to sell all the seats. But if you are not free to select vacation days, then there is little hope to get a cheap charter flight: no one knows whether there will be tickets on the date you need.

The choice of flights and dates is greater at the beginning and at the end of the tourist season.

Remember that charter tickets can’t be returned or exchanged.

Charters are often delayed #

Not as often as before. Since December 2017, the Federal Air Transport Agency has increased control over charter flights and now monitors the punctuality of flights particularly.

Will I receive a compensation if the flight is delayed #

Sure. If your flight is delayed, you have the same rights as a passenger on a regular flight. If your flight is delayed by more than 2 hours, you should have 2 calls or 2 emails arranged for you. If your flight is delayed by more than 4 hours, you are provided with a hot meal. If more than 8 hours have passed during the day or 6 at night, you must be accommodated in a hotel.

The flight was rescheduled to the date when the visa is not valid yet #

In this case, you will not be allowed on the flight. Be on the safe side and write to the Ozon Travel support chat. You can ask to transfer you to another flight or issue a forced return.

Why I get a flight certificate instead of a ticket to email when buying a ticket #

This is a confirmation of the ticket purchase. The itinerary receipt will be issued on the eve of the departure day up to 23:00 Moscow time. Before that time, the departure time, the type of aircraft, the carrier airline, or even the departure/arrival airport may change.

I found a details' error in the flight certificate #

If you’ve seen an error in the details, you can change them before issuing a ticket. Write to the Ozon Travel support chat as soon as possible to find out under which terms invalid information can be corrected.

Is online check-in possible #

Depends on the airline. Some airlines open online check-in on their websites, while others have you check-in only at the airport. There is no way to guess it. Just check the possibility of online check-in on the airline’s website after receiving an electronic ticket. If this is not possible, you will have to check in at the airport by presenting your passport. It is not necessary to print out an itinerary receipt or an electronic ticket.

What kind of luggage can I take with me #

The luggage allowance may vary depending on many factors. You can see the size and weight of luggage for your flight in the itinerary receipt and in the flight certificate. There are standard rules for hand luggage on charter flights:

  • for economy class: 1 place weighing up to 5 kg;
  • for business class: 1 place weighing up to 10 kg;
  • for children from 0 to 2 years: 1 place up to 5 kg, regardless of the service class and fare.

Are there any restrictions for charters in India and Thailand #

Yes, these countries have special rules for charter flights.

In Thailand: you should fly in and out of the country either by regular flights only, or by charter flights only. For example, you can often find offers “From Moscow to Thailand for 7000 rubles by charter flight!”. If you plan to buy such a ticket and fly back on a regular flight, that would be a mistake. At passport control, you may simply not be allowed out of the country. Therefore, we advise you to book round-trip tickets right away.

In India: if you’ve flown in by charter of one airline, then you can fly out by charter flight only of the same airline. If you’ve flown in on a regular flight, then you can fly out on any flight except charter. If you take tickets for a charter round-trip flight to India, carefully check that the carrier is the same airline.

Exception: “Russia” Airlines charter flights always have the status of regular flights.
